Why Do We Fall In Love? The answer is simple, its all related to how your mind works. Over the past few decades, many researchers have looked at, why people fall in love. Several studies have been conducted and several explanations were given.
1) Good Eye Contact Leads To Love:
Arthur Aron, a professor of psychology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, conducted a study that encouraged participants to discuss intimate details about themselves for 90 minutes with strangers of the opposite sex. Another group of couples was asked to stare into each other’s eyes for four minutes in silence. The couples that stared in silence said they felt a deeper attraction to each other, even though they were complete strangers. Two of the couples even ended up married to each other.
University of Massachussets psychologist Joan Kellerman, conducted a study on 72 pairs of unacquainted people to stare into each others eyes for two minutes. The results? They later reported they had increased feelings of passionate love and affection towards the other person.
2) Smell Plays A Role In Love:
A study conducted by the University of Southern California say’s that, when women are ovulating, they prefer the smell of t-shirts worn by men with high levels of testosterone. In the study, researchers tested how women’s sexual scent preferences changed depending on men’s levels of testosterone and cortisol. T-shirts were given to males who volunteered for the study. They were asked to wear the same shirt for two days and were not allowed to use any kind of scented soaps or detergents, and were asked not to eat any pungent foods. Then those T-shirts were given to female volunteers, who sniffed and rated the pleasantness, sexiness and intensity of the smells (on scales from 1 to 10). And the study showed that women who were at the most fertile stage of their menstrual cycles preferred the smell of men with higher testosterone.
