In our celebrity-crazed society, I have to say that I get really tired of seeing celeb-related shenanigans (celebanigans?) in my news feed. From athletes punching their wives in elevators to drunken 20-something celebrities exposing themselves unwittingly to the masses, I’ll be the first to say it: “Celebrities, cut it out.”
This is why I really love to hear stories about celebrities doing amazing things for people and using their influence to actually change lives for the better. Sure, sometimes they are a perfect example of what not to do, but that is not the point. perfect example: Robert Downey Jr. of Iron Man and Avengers fame recently teamed up with an organization called Limbitless Solutions to deliver a 3D-printed prosthetic arm to a young boy.
Limbitless Solutions is a volunteer group of doctors and engineers that is “a non-profit organization devoted to building a generation of innovators who use their skills and passion to improve the world around them. We use additive manufacturing to advance personalized bionics and solutions for disabilities. We believe that no family should have to pay for their child to receive an arm. Now we want to lead by example and encourage communities to innovate with compassion.”
SO once you’ve designed and built a real-life bionic arm for a 7-year old, who better than to deliver it than Tony Stark? Kudos Mr. Downey, you’re setting the golden standard of what it is to be an amazing influence. Also, a HUGE kudos to Limbitless Solutions founder, Albert Manero and his team. You folks are actual superheroes.
