4 Ways To Keep Insecurities From Ruining Your Relationship

4 Ways To Keep Insecurities From Ruining Your Relationship

So, let’s say you have just met the guy or girl of your dreams, yet you are still not able to decide if they are the one… What could possibly be the problem? More often than not, it boils down to insecurities. Everyone has them. Insecurities can be the death of any relationship because they often create problems out of nowhere. It happens with many relationships. If someone in your past has treated you poorly, lied, or even cheated – feeling insecure is a natural and reasonable response. Feeling emotionally vulnerable is quite common when we first enter an intimate relationship. That is why it is so important to prevent your insecurities from ruining your relationship.

1) Control Your Jealousy:
You will have a hard time trusting your partner if you are jealous of every other person in their life. Whether it is their ex or even just a friend they spend a lot of time with, the root of your jealousy is usually because of your past history of being betrayed. Jealous people are tyrannical, controlling, domineering, and completely insensitive to the impact of their actions on their partner. Respect your partner and respect their freedom if you wish to be in a healthy relationship. They have a world outside your relationship – that doesn’t mean they are cheating on you. Once you learn to control your jealousy () you can overcome the biggest insecurities in your relationship. In order to achieve this, you have to respect your partner enough to be honest and upfront with your partner. If you don’t hide anything from your partner, they won’t hide anything from you.

2) Stop Predicting:
Stop trying to read minds. Stop trying to guess and predict everything that is going to happen. If your partner doesn’t feel like going out because he/she has had a rough day at work, don’t assume it is because of you. Don’t assume that they are no longer interested in you. Too often we are so sold on our own insecurities, that we don’t even think twice about the real cause of a situation. If someone says one thing, don’t assume they mean something else. If they say nothing at all, don’t assume their silence has some hidden, negative connotation. Stop trying to reading their minds and respect their right to privacy. This is where communication becomes critical. Ask questions, instead of making assumptions.

3)No Relationship is Perfect:
Perfect relationships exist only in fairy tales, so stop looking for them and start appreciating the imperfect nature of your partner. If you don’t, you will end up spending your life searching for the perfect person – who doesn’t exist. We are all imperfect in some way, so stop looking for the perfect partner and start looking for the one who will balance you out.

4) Don’t Let Your Past Ruin Your Present:
One of the most popular insecurity is judging current relationships based on past ones. Stop comparing your current relationships to all of your past ones. Have faith in your partner. Constantly comparing your current relationships to past ones will start to affect the relationship in the most negative ways. If you carry old bricks from the failed relationships of your past to your present relationships, you will build the same flawed structures that fell apart before. They are called the past, because they are behind you. Stop assuming that the future has to be like the past.
