Back in 2011, one of the worst nuclear disasters the planet has ever seen took place at the Fukushima Daiichi reactors on the coast of Japan. Initially, there was a ton of media coverage, but now you hardly ever hear anything about it. That is a problem because 4 years later the damn thing is still leaking radioactive material into the ocean.

Thanks to photographer and filmmaker Arkadiusz Podniesiński, we can now get a detailed look at the absolute wasteland that is the Fukushima disaster site. Podniesiński has been filming and photographing the disaster site at Chernobyl for years, so he has experience in documenting nuclear disasters. On his web page, Podniesiński says:
“This photographic documentary is not intended to tell the story of the events surrounding the disaster yet again. Like the incident that occurred on 26 April 1986, most readers know the story well. It is worth mentioning one very important aspect, however, which is an essential issue as we consider the story further. It is not earthquakes or tsunami that are to blame for the disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station, but humans. The report produced by the Japanese parliamentary committee investigating the disaster leaves no doubt about this. The disaster could have been foreseen and prevented. As in the Chernobyl case, it was a human, not technology, that was mainly responsible for the disaster.”

The following drone footage was shot by Podniesiński and is simply stunning. These are the kinds of images that people need to be seeing coming out of Japan, not what the government officials are saying.
